Fatty vegetable oils
Fatty oils, widely used in cosmetic practices, are very similar to the fat produced by our skin. Because of that they are quite good for the skin used alone and as a base for cosmetic preparations (hence their other name - base oils). They contain many fat-soluble substances like phospholipids, vitamins A and E, and many other - used for skin care. Unrefined oils of first cold pressing are preferable.
Essential oils
These substances contain high concentrations of plants' active components. To produce essential oils, flowers, seeds, berries, roots and other parts of the plant are used, depending on it's species. In some cases, essential oils from different parts of one plant can possess different characteristics and names. Essential oils are the most potent aromatherapeutic ingredient, and the center of every aromatherapeutic preparation.
Essential oils' qualities are multitude, as well as ways of using them. They can be used in massaging, face and body skin care, baths, steam inhalations, scenting, and so on.
Oil extracts
Derived from plants by the method of maceration, oil extracts are less potent than essential oils, but in some instances are a better choice - and a cheaper one. Relevant parts of the healing plant are soaked in base oils for a several weeks, olive and soyben oils are used very often as a base. While soaking, active components are drawn from the plant, and contained in the base. While used, oil extracts offer both nutritious and moisturizing effects of base oil combined with the plant's active component's effect.
Oil extracts are convenient, because you don't have to dilute them with base oils. They contain various vitamins and natural pigments, care for the skin and can be used on their own instantly.
